Goal

Moon Rise set out to purchase 30+ EMPWR coats in hopes of bringing real and lasting warmth to as many people as possible living homeless in Chicago. Each coat costs $100 to produce through The Empowerment Plan.

Beneficiary

The Empowerment Plan is an organization that employs women from homeless shelters in Detroit to manufacture heavy-duty coats that fold out into self-heating sleeping bags to be given to homeless individuals in Chicago and throughout the midwest. They are a nonprofit organization working to empower all and struggling women to value themselves, while providing extremely durable and life-saving coats to homeless individuals in areas of extreme need, like winter in Chicago.

Summary

Surpassed goal.

With the help of Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, 30 heavy-duty coats that fold out into sleeping bags were distributed to homeless individuals in areas of extreme need throughout Chicago. Our partnership with local homeless shelters allowed us to strategically distribute the coats throughout Chicago in the most effective manner possible. Additional funds raised supported The Empowerment Plan's education program, which helps their Detroit seamstresses obtain certifications and GEDs, hopefully breaking families from the cycle of homelessness.
